Deciding which dimension to work in is a tough choice. To start things off, Jama will walk you through the advantages and disadvantages of using 2D vs. 3D, and the power of combining them together. We will then do a tour of 3D-Coat, including the tools and workflow Jama uses to create concept sketches.
Homework
Assignment
1. Starting from silhouttes, create a futuristic cityscape. Try using different shapes from study to build a nice variety creating your own unique shapes.
At '4:26' of 1. 2D and 3D Techniques: Working with Stencils jama activates the light and gets shadows while still in the sculpt mode of 3DCoat. I think I've missed how he does this and I'm wondering how, anyone know?
Hi, everyone, Here are my 1 week/class homework - 2 shots, i have done more , and still working on them. They are more like sketches/ concepts not so photoreal. I must play around keyshot more, and do something more photoreal:) , its all great fun and a lot of learning
This approach, using 3dcoat, and keyshot is so awesome, i didnt think before ist possible to generate so many complex "architecture" using keyshot , and stuff with adding texture to all is great deal. So thanks Jama for beeing great teacher, and showing this cool techniques, looking forward to making more of those, and jumping on next lessons :)

Hi everyone, so here is the first image I've completed for the course, I've rendered a few other angles with different moods and will try to finish the post work on those as soon as possible. I never thought it could be so easy to create an entire cityscape like that, it would have taken me weeks in Maya/Vray !
Hi guys!
I'm so glad to learn something new from masters, thank you Jama for that opportunity and that you share all of your knowledge with us. Here is my homework for Week1 :)
Hey everybody, posting this feeling quite nervous. This is my first try ever at doing digital artwork. Everything i wanted to do i had to look up and try to understand and learn and then instantly apply. So as you may understand it wasnt really a fast process but i got it done at least. :)
I really appreciate if someone have any tips for a newbie for either 3D och photo-editing or maybe just a youtube-channel to recommend!
Thanks sathish! will probably spend tonight learning and reading. Yeah i know i was pretty lost when i came to fog and such and didnt really know how to get it right... will try another angle tonight and maybe get better results! thanks for the comment :)
Hey buddy welcome to board..Its a good start.....check out http://www.fusroda.com/resources it will help u a lot....go through some of those links..it will improve u a lot...sooner....for this piece....just have a few reference and try to mimic it..also add atmospheric fog...it will help u to create depth....u can render zdepth pass in keyshot....keep going..
Hi everyone ! So I did a very quick test with 3D coat and some silhouetes I did in Photoshop and here is the kind of result I get. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this ? I'm very very new to 3D coat so forgive me if it's something really simple to fix, I'm searching but haven't found a way to fix it yet. Thank you !
thanks for posting,
your geometry might be too low res.
Also you can try smoothing your geo by>geometry> smooth all.
Don`t try to archive perfect looking buildings..
i mentioned it few times throughout this course.
3D coat is more like a sketching tool.. once you put all textures and lighting you won`t be able to see a lot of this rough stuff
hope it makes sense!
cheers
jama
hey guys! i jumped in a bit late, i hope that's fine. Here are my first tries of cityscape design. Environments and architecture especially was never my comfort zone so 3d-coat is really a life changer for me in that case, but i still struggle with compositions, so i would really appreciate any critique you guys could give me on these. thanks:)
