Rendering
Lesson 4 of 4 Environment Design
You will begin this lesson by setting up your scene in Octane. Then Gaëlle will show you how to use render passes to get maximum flexibility when painting over your 3D environment in Photoshop. You will utilize photobashing and blending techniques to make your CG imagery fit seamlessly with the rest of your painting.
NOTE: Octane is the software Gaëlle uses for rendering in this lesson, but you can follow along in Blender or any other software you prefer.
- Render Time- Set up your scene in Octane, add lighting and volumetrics, then render everything. If you choose to use Blender instead, then work on any final details you didn't get to at the end of the previous lesson and render your scene once more. - Recommended render passes:
In Octane: Beauty • Z-Depth • Ambient Occlusion • Diffuse Direct • Reflection Direct • Volume
In Blender: Beauty • Mist • Ambient Occlusion • Diffuse Light • Specular Light • Volume Light
- When Worlds Collide- Grade your rendered passes and paint over your scene. Don't be afraid to integrate photographic elements with the 3D. Finally, upload your finished image to the Learn Squared homework gallery.
