Forest
Lesson 2 of 4 Unreal Engine 5 Environments Made Easy
Next, Joe will show you how to build a lush forest scene. This lesson will focus on Unreal’s procedural foliage systems and dynamic lighting.
Forest Initial Setup Homework
Create a new level and add the Brushify Auto-Material. Then add in terrain with alpha brushes, and experiment with paint layers.
Set Dressing Homework
Start set dressing your scene by placing cliff pieces and distance meshes around your level. It’s also a good time to look for a good overall composition, setting up bookmarks for your favorite shots.
Procedural Foliage Homework
Add a procedural foliage system to your environment. Experiment with the various settings of the procedural foliage volume to get compelling looking trees and rocks.
PCG Homework
Enable the PCG plugin, create a new PCG Graph, and experiment with all its features to create your own custom procedural setups.
Forest Scene Development Homework
Using all the skills you’ve learned in this lesson, flesh out your forest scene. Check some reference images along the way, to stay on track and add realism. Experiment and have fun with the process!
