2D Sketch
Lesson 1 of 6 Advanced Vehicle Design
In this lesson Alex will cover the principles of design, you’ll learn how to find and organize reference, and finally you will sketch your vehicle in 2D.
Function & Proportion Homework
Gather a set of vehicle references that you find interesting, and draw shapes over them to identify the shapes and proportions. Which pieces are more functional and which can be changed to support the overall design? Studying in this way can help you to identify what works and what needs improvement in your own designs later.
Form Homework
Take two vehicle reference images and combine them into a single design sketch. Like Alex did in the demonstration earlier, you should use a minimal amount of detail here. The idea is only to get used to pulling inspiration from references. For extra credit, you can do a few of these ‘combo designs’!
Reference Homework
Choose a learning path to follow, decide on a general direction for your vehicle, and then collect a set of references for that vehicle type.
2D Sketching Homework
Sketch various design options for your vehicle in 2D. Generally you can aim for 4-8 sketches, but you should do however many you need. Take your time here and have fun!
