  • Analyzing Large Shapes Homework

Find a set of photographs, movie shots, or artwork you admire. Then break down those images into large, medium and small shapes like Aaron did in the earlier demo.

You can do this either in Photoshop by drawing over each image in red, blue and green, or you can do this with ink on paper by defining the large, medium and small shapes in black, grey and white.

  • Thumbnail Sketching Homework

Choose a variety of photographs, film stills, artwork you like, and other reference. Using this reference, fill a page with thumbnail images.

Make sure to utilize the large shape techniques that you practiced earlier in the lesson, to make your thumbnails really pop. Change the reference images to fit the image you want to create!

Leave some blank space on the side of your page for one larger image, which you’ll sketch later in this lesson.

  • Larger Composition Homework

Create a large sketch using the same ‘large shape’ techniques you’ve been using for your thumbnails earlier in the lesson. See how the focus on these compositional elements helps your sketch’s readability.

For this assignment, you can either choose one of your previous thumbnails to turn into this larger sketch, or you can create an entirely new sketch.
